The American Red Cross is experiencing a severe blood shortage and has issued an emergency call for blood and platelet donations. Right now, blood is being distributed to hospitals faster than it is being donated. A critical shortage of Red Cross blood donations may lead to delays in urgent medical care to vulnerable patients.
If you can help out, it will be greatly appreciated. The next Lake Heritage blood drive is scheduled for Monday July 31st from 12:30 until 6:00 at the Community center sponsored by the Lake Heritage Women’s club. There are still many spaces open, all day long, so please send me a reply with your favorite time and I will make an appointment for you. The time with the least wait is usually between 2:30 and 5:00, but I think the Red Cross has been doing a good job at our recent drives of keeping the wait to a minimum no matter what time slot. In addition, the Red Cross has released a new tool called RapidPass that is described below. Several people used it at the last blood drive and found it did help speed up the process. Please note you must do it on the day of the drive, you cannot do it in advance.
I hope some of you give it a try and hopefully will experience a faster donation process. Or you can just stop by the clubhouse on July 31st, whenever it is convenient for you, but there may be a bit of a wait without an appointment. Also, if you know someone who might consider giving, please invite them along.
The Red Cross is pleased to announce RapidPass, a new tool that allows blood donors to help save lives in less time. The blood donors at your blood drive can take advantage of this exciting new tool.
RapidPass allows your donors to complete their pre-reading and donation questions online from the comfort and privacy of their home or office; reducing the time they spend at the blood drive by up to 15 minutes. That means happier donors!

Answer the questions
Print the pass or email it to themselves
Important to know! RapidPass cannot be completed prior to the date of the drive. Donors must complete the steps to redeem their pass on the day they donate. Donors who do not bring the printed pass with them to their donation or cannot show it on a mobile device will be asked to complete the questions again. RapidPass does not take the place of scheduling an appointment. Please encourage your donors to schedule their appointments in the same way they have done in the past.
