The Fishing Club is a club with broad shoulders and it serves multiple purposes. It is a must to repeat that the Fishing Club has very little to do with fishing in any way, shape or form and its name is a remnant of its origin as a couple of guys sitting around drinking beer telling stories about “the one that got away”. The FC is open to all LHPOA members and its primary aim is social and its secondary aim is fund raising.
Members of the FC gather in the large room of the Community Center at 6 p.m. on every second Friday of the month. The feature is a pot luck dinner with a given theme of the evening. For example, February’s theme is typically Valentine’s Day and the three or four hosts (usually couples) set up the room and decorate it in a way reflective of Valentine’s Day. Members bring hors d’oeuvres, main dishes and/or desserts for the monthly dinner. The FC provides wine, beer, soda, water, and coffee. The membership fee is a modest $30 per couple per year.
The FC raises funds which is donates to scholarships earmarked for college bound LHPOA high school graduates, local fire departments, stocking the lake with fish and other well-intentioned, charitable causes.
