Volunteers Needed To Place Flags Along Heritage Drive for July 4th

Contributed by Webmaster

For years, Lake Heritage has celebrated three major national holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans’ Day by placing American flags along the lake side of Heritage Drive.

Phyllis French, a long time LHPOA member, has spearheaded this effort and asks for volunteers to help her with this task. Phyllis breaks down the 400+ flags into bundles of twenty and volunteers plant the flags based on maps which Phyllis supplies. Placing one or two bundles of flags takes about 20-30 minutes. Volunteers have used a variety of tools such as cordless drills or hammers and spikes to create a hole for the flags wooden shaft. Long time flag volunteers can be very creative when it comes to how to make the perfect hole.

For the July 4th flag placing, Phyllis will distribute bundles of flags at the Shady Grove Pavilion on Monday, July 2 at 3 p.m.

If you would like to participate in this activity, please contact Phyllis by sending her an email, phyllis.french5477@gmail.com.

Volunteers will also collect the flags on Thursday, July 5.
