2020-07-20 Fishing Club Picnic

The Lake Heritage Fishing Club Annual Picnic

by George Thorsen

I wanted to report that we had a modest but respectable meeting of the Fishing Club on Friday, July 10th at Shady Grove. Many brought their own chairs and even tables as social distancing reduced the seating capacity greatly. After an official opening by Craig Dresser, Ernie spoke briefly about Gerry Royal’s passing and said a short prayer. Rich had the grill fired up and there were some fixings on the table such as sauerkraut, chili, and buns to decorate the hot dogs, which were plentiful. Beer, wine, and water were available and masks were raised to eat and drink. While we may not have passed Dr. Fauci’s strictest coronavirus protective test, efforts were made to keep distance and wear masks.

Awards were presented to the scholarship winners Jack Herkowski,  Stephanie Grasmick, Andrew Scherer, and Rachel Hundley, who came with their respective families. The scholarship winners had their pictures taken and spoke eloquently about their goals and aspirations.

People mingled and chatted. The weather was about as close to perfect as possible. Sylvan Hershey counted 30 FC members, so with scholarship recipients’ families, we flirted with 50 attendees as measured by informal count. I suspect that COVID concerns diminished this number but not the enjoyment of those who ventured out on this evening in the name of friendship, fun, and frankfurters.

Below is a collage of pictures taken during the evening that reveals more than my words.
